No. You can just get it out and stir it a few times. It will be denser than whipped ice cream and need to be defrosted for longer. IT's still lovely!

I've done a recipe with kids with a few ziploc bags, ice, salt (not in the ice cream), milk and flavour/fruit. It so works, too!

No - you can make the mixture, partially freeze it in a plastic box for an hour or two, then take it out again and beat it up in a bowl. Then put it back in freezer to freeze fully.
I have a £40 Philips ixce cream maker that I'd love to use more regularly, but the bowl has to be frozen 24 hours in advance and uses up a lot of space in a small freezer (far more than a plastic box).
