kettle's broken & gas has been turned off until monday so no hob either and I am GAGGING for a cup of tea

I suppose I can just fill a mug with water & nuke it?

i am sure that will be fine...

It can be quite dangerous. Something to do with superheating it - give it a good few taps and a nudge before you pick it up. The water can suddenly "explode" out of the cup when disturbed and you don't want to be holding it when this happens. I've had it happen with a cup of reheated coffee.

bugger ADragon, I read cheeky's and popped it in, stopped it when I read yours & the mug's making a funny noise...

You can get hotspots (same as with baby bottles I guess] and I think that if parts of the water are at a different temp then bits of the cup can be too, and it can explode.

Do it slowly and stir frequently and it will hopefully be OK,

Whoops sorry

honestly couldnt see a problem with it

Is milk the same as i heat some up everyday in a jug?

GrimmaTheNome · 23/10/2009 15:05

I think water is more likely to superheat because it doesn't have many nucleation points.

Just do it carefully and stir.

had a hot chocolate instead
