Buffet tomorrow - have I got enough ham?

For 11 people (including 2 kids).
I've bought 1.8kg, but I'm now having doubts and thinking of going out and buying a small one to add in. It looks a lot smaller now!
Also dishing up quiche, salads, bread, dips, sausage rolls etc

I would allow about 2 good slices per person with a bit left over. is it sliced?

Is it nice ham?

Almost 4lb of ham between 11 will be plenty - that's nearly 6 ounces each

Is it nice ham? Hmmm, it's from Tesco, joint of gammon. I've messed up spectacularly with it and took off all of the wrapping (including the one that is supposed to be left on whilst it is being boiled. Excuse - this is the first time I've done it!), so it's 'unwrapped' in the water/cloves etc. I think the technical term will be 'mini slices

Gonna get DH to slice tonight and just wondering whether to get him to buy a smaller joint on way home from work to add into. But thank you, I'm reassured I've got enough ... (I think!).

and 'glazing' has had to go out of the window.
my mums advice - just slice it very thinly in the morning, no one (except her and me) will know, that at the moment, it looks more like a sausage than a joint of gammon!

And MIL also panics 'is there enough' - there's usually enough on the table to feed Hogwarts for an entire school year

I do definitely overfeed . One time, we had about 6 friends around and they all took a tray home as there was so much food left over. My sis is making 2 large quiches too (but she said she'd take home whatever is left).

Least I've made the whole unwrapping joint mistake now, rather than Christmas eve!

sheep- when I do it I dont leave any wrapper on? You definitely did the right thing boiling it naked. Don't panic! Im sure it will be gorgeous. I should have mentionned that it shrinks loads, sorry about that. You will have to stand by the buffet people and rap people's knuckles if they take more than one slice.

hi notamumyet - my mum reckons that joints are either tied up with string (from butchers) or from supermarkets, they have like a cellaphaney style 'wrapper' (inside the packaging) which keeps it together whilst you boil, so it sets in the round shape (which you take off prior to roasting, but after boiling). What do you do to stop yours 'opening up'?

Off now to collect the dry cleaned settee cushion covers after ds was sick on them yesterday, just in preparation for his birthday party tomorrow

Hi sheep, how did your DS' party go? Hope the ham went down well! My ham was from Morrisons and came in a cellophane wrapper, which i removed, but under the cellaphane wrapper it was tied up with red string which I kept on whilst it boiled and roasted.

I am having serious ham cravings now!
