The best milk for my DC

With all these new milks available, I've seen 1% in Sainsburys, how are we supposed to know what is best for our DC at what age? Why is fat level so important anyway?

Does anyone have any sources of info they can share? Have asked health visitor but she was suitably vague

how old is your child,please?

new milks?
1% is just a posh name for skimmed, surely?
full fat up to 2 (and beyond if you want)
semi until 5ish
then whatever

I wanted DS to carry on drinking full fat as he's a skinny little thing, but he decided he prefers semi skimmed, which suits me as that's what we buy.

Full fat until 2
Semi-skimmed (1 or 2%) until 5
Skimmed after 5

DS just had first birthday.

Sainsburys now stock skimmed (red) and 1% (orange).

I currently buy semi skimmed for me& the husband, when I've asked nursey what they supply they have not been clear. I want to make sure he is getting the best to help him grow & develop properly

Fat content in milk is important for energy and for making new cells within the body. I really wouldn't worry too much, use semi skimmed if you already buy that and ds is eating well.

The confusion seems to be with 1% milk. Semi-skimmed is about 1.7%. Some professionals will say 1% is ok from 2, others from 5.

as your lo is only 1 then I would stick to full fat milk until he is 2 - you can then choose to give semi-skimmed milk (or not).
