Was it nice? Why did you choose it? (the venue and the food)

Could you recreate it at home?

Would you?

It was our 7th wedding anniversary and we went to an Italian restaurant called San Giavannos.
I had the chicken in White wine and cream sauce with asparagus, with a side dish of veggies.
DH had some sort of seafood pasta dish.
I had the tiramasu for dessert. It was all absolutely gorgeous and I probably could cook it at home but the quality would be nowhere near. Plus we would have to clear up after ourselves!

My mum took me to a french pub near oxford, favourite of Tim Henman, don't ya know !!

I had hare. Very tasty.
She had sweet bread. I didn't know what hers was when I tasted it, but I thought it was delicious. I don't think I would ever order it though !!

No I could never re-create at home. Thats the whole point of going to a restaurant, I think.

local caf - goats cheese & butternut squash risotto with chilli oil. it tasted fine but I felt sick afterwards so no, I won't be recreating it at home!

bibbitybobbitycat · 23/10/2009 15:54

I think the last time I ate out was ds's birthday (mid Sept) - can that be right??? No wonder I feel like I'm on a permanent meal production treadmill.

Anyways, we went to a local Italian cafe and I had a fresh pasta thing with bacon and peas and a creamy sauce. Bit like carbonara. No way could I recreate it at home - I would never make my own pasta, and the sauce was so delicious, I suspect, because it was made with double cream and egg yolks which I would not usually allow myself to have. It was bloody lush though and £5! .

Yo! Sushi.

Loads of things hot and cold - prawn, chicken, duck and seaweed.

I wouldn't attempt any of it at home, we'd never get the conveyor belt in the kitchen.

MacaroonIncident · 23/10/2009 15:56

we had a cone of hot vinegary chips

stakethroughtheheartofgold · 23/10/2009 15:57

pizza with dolcelatte, parma ham and capers (which was fricken lush) could do the toppings and i do a good tomato sauce for pizza but couldn't do proper pizzeria base.

stakethroughtheheartofgold · 23/10/2009 15:59

went italian cos friend gorging carb-loading on pasta for marathon next day plus had many small children so weren't about to go anywhere fancy.

JANEITEPatrickNormanMcHennesy · 23/10/2009 16:00

Morris - thank you. Might go for the one in Harrogate.

meltedmarsbars · 25/10/2009 14:36

Stakethroughtheheart - have you tried the NYT no-knead bread method to make pizza base? Add a couple of spoons of olive oil to the mixture, and its pizza dough.
this video is how you do it, then roll the dough out and put your toppings on.

Tuesday - steak tartare and chips followed by profiteroles

Friday - Foie gras starter with spiced gingerbread and fig confit, Duck breast with sauted potatoes and salad - no pudding as chef had bunked off early so apologetic waitresses gave us the coffee free

meltedmarsbars · 25/10/2009 14:46

Chef doing a disappearing act on a Friday?

(aren't most puds bought in?)

This is france so he bunked off early, I should imagine, with a fag hanging out of his mouth and a hot date waiting at the bar down the road.

Was most disappointed as had already chosen the pudding from the specials board behind dh's head.

luciemule · 25/10/2009 14:50

local pub sunday lunch time - chicken chasseur - tasted nothing like and was marred by the strong taste of capers. Should have had scampi and chips!

wheredidiputit · 25/10/2009 15:28

Afternoon tea here

Bambinoloveseggbirds · 26/10/2009 07:57

We last went to Almeida in Islington. I had foie gras and walnut salad, slow roasted belly of pork and creme brulee. It was a very special occasion, I don't eat like that very often.
