Was it nice? Why did you choose it? (the venue and the food)

Could you recreate it at home?

Would you?

I dislike chicken, but DH and DS1 love Nandos. We are there once a fortnight - it would be much more often if DH had his way. I get the vegetarian wrap.

Last 'out' meal was two Sundays ago at a local hotel - Carvery. Starters was: veg soup followed by mini spare ribs. Main was Roast Beef, stuffing, potatoes, carrots, turnip, cabbage & gravy, dessert was fruit salad.

Last take away was Saturday past from the Jade Garden Chinese & it was chicken fillet in a garlic & chilli sauce served with boiled rice.

And reading this thread has made me sooooo hungry!!

Rindercella · 20/10/2009 22:39

Is there such a thing as nice crab cakes in F&Bs?

Nothing surprises me about goings on in kitchens - I have heard horror stories to curl your hair

ConnieComplaint · 20/10/2009 22:39

What's Nandos? We don't have any of those where I'm at. IS it a fast food type place or a restaurant?

meltedmarsbars · 20/10/2009 22:40

Great thread! Food porn? Or not exotic enough to be that?

Living Room inNewcastle on Saturday night.

I had tomato soup to start then pumpkin and ricotta tortelloni with roasted squash and spinach, in a creamy shallot and white wine sauce.

It was delish .

I wouldn't attempt any of it at home.

Sorry Sal, was just joking. I always find F&Bs a bit hit or miss - the one by us is dire, but the one we used to go to was really nice. Think they are franchises, so that probably explains the differences

Brown's, Mill Street, Guernsey

Curried parsnip soup - delicious and loads of it.

Spiced beef with mash and vegetables - very spicy but very nice too, left most of the mash to save room for the pudd!

Profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce - what more can I say, chocolate, cream and shoux pastry, yum!

Cost £10 and they were doing £10 bottles of wine too, had too many of those between us!

Great company too!

Channel Islands tennerfest

Frango's, in Kingston, on Saturday. Like Nando's. Had chicken livers (but 10p for extra portion of butter for roll!!!!!) and shared half a chicken with dh with 2 regular sides. Yum yum.

Have tried to recreate it at home but it was rubbish......

meltedmarsbars · 20/10/2009 23:20

What is a regular side?!!! I do not go out much!

WeeMo85 · 20/10/2009 23:27

TGI's on Sunday.

Was bloody amazing.

Mixed Grill!!! Meat, meat and more meat!!! (oh chips too)

Bloody difficult to go for a nice meal when you have a mental 7yr old boy!!

muggglewump · 20/10/2009 23:30

The weekend before last.

I had Seabream Tartar followed by Snails. DD had Monkfish with Artichokes and we shared a chocolate mousse and mango and passionftuit sorbet dessert. I had wine too.

It was in a 5* hotel in Switzerland, cost £112 and I didn't pay, I won the weekend on here

meltedmarsbars · 20/10/2009 23:31

Someoone please tell me what a regular side is?

Muggle SNAILS!

OP posts:
muggglewump · 20/10/2009 23:42

Yes, they were nice.
I had Foie Gras the night before and brought back a horse steak.
I like to try new things.

WeeMo85 · 20/10/2009 23:48

I think with F&B it all depends on the restaurant.

There's 4 (i think1) in GLasgow and they're all fab!!

Baileys Latte is amazing!!!!!!!!!

snickersnack · 20/10/2009 23:49

Local gastro pub place - had fish pie. It was ok, a bit too cheesy and portion off- puttingly large. Wouldn't do it that way at home - mine is far nicer!

shockers · 21/10/2009 00:05

The Cartford Inn, lancashire. Had the chef's speciality which was an oxtail steamed pudding with mashed potatoes and a cold beetroot salad. Sounds revolting I know but it was absolutely delicious! The owner is French and the food is just lovely. Wouldn't even try to make it because I like to have it there!!

BlackLetterDay · 21/10/2009 04:29

Aww I want a parmo nappyzone, where are you from if you don't mind me asking?

MissWooWoo · 21/10/2009 05:14

I had chicken ramen yesterday at wagamammas.

You could recreate it at home if you were that way inclined, the recipe is in their cookbook ... I think at realising have rarely opened cookbook since getting in about 5 years ago
