Cake making?! Can i self teach?

Im thinking of getting into cake making then when im good enough do wedding cakes.
Does anyone do this? Do i need to do a course? Help! Where do i start?

Making cakes is dead easy.
Get some books from the library and follow them to the letter. Baking is quite an exact science.

I have no idea about the commercial possibilities, however.

It's easy enough to make a start - just get a recipe book and start from there. But you need to also get a feel for your own oven - the temperatures and timings sometimes need a bit of experimenting till you find what works best.

I suspect if you want to do it commercially, you'd need to get a food hygiene certificate - your local FE college may be able to provide suitable courses for that.
