oyster sauce
that's the trick, oyster sauce and put a littel bit of sugar on your pak choi

....or chilli sauce

....or blabk bean

.....or sweet and sour

...or lots of soy

wordsmith · 10/06/2005 16:12

Put in som plum sauce or hoi sin or Black Bean or something. Chicken stock is good too. I usually put in chicken or whatever but you can make some really nice veggie stir fries. It's the spices and sauces that make it tasty.

wordsmith · 10/06/2005 16:12

Oh yes! Oyster sauce. How could I forget. And soy. Try them all!

Iklboo · 10/06/2005 16:26

When I heat the oil in the wok I add some Chinese 5 spice powder, ground ginger & mild chilli powder and some garlic (or use garlic oil). Or one of the great add in sauces you can buy

jackeroo · 10/06/2005 17:37

adding a little bit of sherry helps add flavour too...

JoolsToo · 10/06/2005 17:41

prepare wearing an apron and nothing else

Blu · 10/06/2005 17:44

If you haven't got any of these specaialist sauces in the cupboard, you can use some vinegar and honey with spices such as ginger.
Or peanut butter, honey, vinegar.
Or Chilli, garlic and lemon.
Once I used a couple of spoonfuls of marmalade, ginger and black pepper.

mange touts and sesame seeds

NotQuiteCockney · 10/06/2005 20:35

Sesame oil and seeds are good. Or you can make your own satay sauce, with grated onion, coconut milk, peanut butter, crushed chillis and soy sauce.

pootlepod · 10/06/2005 20:44

Also, another stir fry thing is to do the veg in 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 2 teaspoons cumin seeds, coriander, 2 cloves garlic, couple tomatoes and serve with greek yogurt in tortilla wraps. Not quite a chinese stir fry and suits Med veg better but just as quick.

hermykne · 10/06/2005 21:11

well i grated ginger, paprika, garlic in the wok with oil, added some chicken, then the greens, and some stir fry noodles (dh thought veg and chicken bit skimpy as a dinner! greedy gob) and then some soy sauce, cornflower, lemon juice and sugar mixed , ontop - tasted quite nice

felt really good
til i just ate - about 1/2 inch of a tub of ben and jerrys
