How do you store/ freeze soup?

I made two different soups last night, when they had cooled I put them in plastic food storage bags and left them there over night. In the morning I saw that most of the thinner juice had somehow seeped out of the plastic bad. Lucky that there were sitting in a food container as well.

So what do you put your soup in when you are going to freeze it?

Also do you defrost completly before re-heating or just stick straight in the pan from the freezer?

Also wondering how long you would leave it in the fridge and it still be ok to eat?

I use a plastic box (don't fill to the brim as you need to allow for expansion when frozen). I often defrost mine by putting it in a saucepan on a low heat and breaking it all up as it defrosts/heats.
I'd leave it for up to 3 days in a fridge.

I put it in plastic containers with lids and store on top shelf of freezer, usually one stacked on top of another. When re-heating, I just put in pan from freezer! As for keeping in fridge - only for a day or 2.

Thank you for the replies. I have got those plastic boxes with lids that are the same as the containers you get from the chinese, are they secure enough?

And how long can you store soup in the freezer?

I have used ziploc bags for years and never had any trouble with them especially with soup. They are super tough.

Lakeland soup and sauce bags....fab....they come in 2 sizes, are really thick plastic with ziplock top and a gusset thingy on the bottom so you can stand the bag up and pour the soup in from the pan.

As John Torode might say....they've choinged moi loife.....

(and in Sept they were on 3X2)

Iuse old take-away containers, the plastic ones.

And cook straight from frozen. Life's too short to faf with defrosting.

you can store soup in the freezer for ever.

Either those lock and load boxes (as they are known in this house), or those Lakeland soup bags.
