Italian Main Course

We're having my Mum and her DP over for dinner soon. The last time they came we did Indian so this time we are doing Italian.

For a starter we are doing Antipasti so lots of salami, parma ham etc.

Either doing Tiramisu or Limoncello for pudding.

But not sure for a main. I think spag bol, carbonara or lasange is just a bit too boring and predictable.

Not keen on fish but will eat most other stuff.

Any ideas welcomed!!

How about this:

Have tried it & it's fab!

Asparagus risotto? I like it stuffed into roasted red peppers and sereved with 'posh' salad leaves with a balsamic glaze. You could do roasted shallots too.

In season now:

  • Pumpkin and rosemary risotto
  • Pumpkin gnocchi with butter and sage or with grated smoked ricotta
  • Chestnut flour savoury pancakes with cheese
  • Gnocchi alla parigina with mushroom sauce
  • Wild Mushrooms stew with polenta
  • Brasato al barolo/barbera (beef stewed in red wine)
  • Veal and pork meatballs with parsley and truffle paste (truffle is optional and you can use beef)
  • Roast guinea fowl with juniper and rosemary.

I am a Northern Italian, so my ideas are biased that way...

Do you really want to give them just liqueur for pudding?
