The kids' dinner hasn't gone to plan.

Have fish, rice and coconut mik baking in the oven. Rice still raw after 20 minutes.

Recoverable or chip shop?

liahgen · 05/10/2009 16:45

whoops,

ib · 05/10/2009 16:45

What kind of rice is it? I would expect rice to take much longer than 20 mins in oven, tbh.

Ivykaty44 · 05/10/2009 16:46

What gas mark etc?

Would cook for longer than 20 minutes - more like an hour on gas5

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 16:47

I just wasn't thinking.

Of course rice will take longer. Oops.

It is blinking risotto rice as well.

I cook my risotto on hob then finish it off in oven, takes less time ime

pushmepullyou · 05/10/2009 16:48

If the fish is in fillets I would probably extricate them from the mix and bung the rice and coconut milk in the microwave for a bit.

Or finish it off on the hob?

OmicronPersei8yourbrain · 05/10/2009 16:49

Can you get on the hob? A bit more liquid and another 10 minutes?

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 16:51

Oh bugger.

If I drain the rice and milk into a pan, what then?

OP posts:
FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 16:53

This will teach me to try and make up a recipe with left over stuff. (Muffins are fab btw.)

If it's risotto rice you should be OK to cook it as if it was risotto, so on a low heat stirring frequently and adding a bit more hot water/stock/milk if it starts to dry up.

Sounds lovely though, am very as we only have toast and cabbage in the house!

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 16:59

I now have the rice and more coconut milk on the hob. How long do you reckon?

OP posts:
pushmepullyou · 05/10/2009 17:01

A risotto is usually about 20-25 minutes from scratch so probably a bit less than that. Main thing to watch is that it doesn't get to dry and burn on the back of the pan.

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 17:03

Oh heck. I am tempted to give up.

Poor kids will be starving.

OP posts:
liahgen · 05/10/2009 17:15

How is it coming on?

Perhaps tip some liquid out into a jug, the pour it in bit by bit as it cooks iyswim

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 17:17

Is served. DS1 and I like it.

DD and DS2 don't. No surprises there.

liahgen · 05/10/2009 17:18

At least it cooked.

FABIsInTraining · 05/10/2009 17:27

I just had some more. It is yummy .

pushmepullyou · 05/10/2009 21:29
