Who's got a Be Ro baking book?

The one I remember was a long thin book from 20 years ago.

Anyway, I'm after the recipe for "almond rounds" or sometehing. They were an almond shortbready biscuit and absolutely gorgeous.

Soupy - that takes me back!! I can remember us pestering my mum to make the smartie cake out of it....and I made many a 'rock' cake...

I have one!!!!!! You can still buy them. Not sure where it is though. Try your supermarket in the baking aisle. I got mine from the co-op. My grandma bought us all one when we moved out of home!

Yes, you can still buy them, think it says on website, or if you buy a bag of be-ro flour. Think they are about a whole £1.25!

There's a Be-Ro website where you can get the latest edition. I have one.

Oh gosh - think I'm going to have to buy one for old times sake.....(bit worrying about the 20 years ago thou' Soupy....)

Could be those, Puppy They don't look quite like I remember but I guess the only thing to do is to try them...

Think i may order one myself, its the only cook book i used when i was younger, my mum has the centenary edition, we love the flapjack recipe which uses cornflakes

just checked the index they have Almond Icing Almond Paste Almond Slices but no Almond rounds, sorry....

I've found a real old one from the 70's. Almond biscuits perhaps?

6oz be ro self raising flour
pinch salt
30z caster sugar
20z ground almonds
5oz margerine
almond essance
blanched almonds

mix all but the blanched almonds
roll out cut into rounds put almond on each one 15 min 180/gas 4

My mum was given one for her wedding in 1973 and she gave me one for my wedding in 1998. Great for all the baking basics.

I remember this from childhood too - surely its 30 years rather than 20 years ago
Rock cakes were good.
