Sugarcrafters..come hither...

Can any experienced sugarcrafters help me? I've started cake making as a hobby, made and decorated my very first cake last week, which I was truly proud of.

Anyway...I want to make another cake for my friends birthday, but i want to make false eyelashes to put on it. Im thinking that the best way it to make them is like you would a sugarcraft daisy. (I've read some books but never done it before)

Can I do it with normal sugarpaste icing or do I need to use the flowerpaste? Ideally i want it to be edible but for something so thin and delicate do I need the dries rock hard thin paste? Would you agree on my way of making them? im thinking roll it out, cut lashes with a blade etc and then use cocktail stick to curl the ends up?

Hi,

You can paint eyelashes onto a cake wit a food edible pen if this fits your design.

Alternatively try rice crackers and spray them with edible spray colour.

Don't use sugarpaste (the paste for covering cakes ) as this will not dry strong enough and hold its shape and it cannot be worked fine enough either. Use either mexican paste (can be made or purchased) or flower paste and this can be bought in different colours, rolled with your fingers, left to dry and then inserted into the sugarpaste cake coating.

If you need any more help please contact me at the address below.

Kind regards,

Julie

Wow I gues sno-one is more qualified to give cake advice than you Julie. thank you. I think i'll try the mexican paste or flower paste as I want the lashes to stand proud of the cake rather than painting them on. My mate always has lash inserts done and they are ridiculously long. I want the cake to have a big set of lashes on as a bit of a light hearted mickey take.

thanks for your ideas.
