You appreciate good food.

You cook from scratch.

Would you be likely to let your standards slide if you were 'just' cooking for you and your DCs?

Do you make great meals for the family, but left alone for a week you'd embrace the opportunity to initiate yourself in the world of take-out, ready meals, and toast for dinner?

I've just had a surprising conversation on this topic with my friend.

snigger I appreciate good food, I cook from scratch.

I also pretty much always 'just' cook for DS and I. There's no one else to cook for after all, just him and I.

So, no, I do not let my standards slide when I am cooking for him and I.

I don't buy takeout or ready-meals, they're kind of expensive, but sometimes we have toast and fried eggs or cheese on toast for supper. I wouldn't class that as not good food though.

Lots fo really good meals and really tasty food can be prepared rally quickly. I wouldn't consider scrambled eggs, toast and a salad a less worthy supper than a casserole that's been cooking for hours and has £10 worth of meat in it.

I wouldn't bother with really complicated recipes for jsut me and the kids. There jsut isn't any point, the kids are jsut as happy with something that doesnt require a trillion ingredients.
I would probably live on fish for the week. Dp isn't a big fish eater. I'd make all the things I never get to eat like fish pie, and salmon en croute.

I wouldn't change if it was me and the DCs, as their diet is more important to me than DH's and mine. If I was on my own, I'd eat lots of fish, some quick supper type things (omelettes, warm salad) and spicy chickpeas (which I love but make me fart so badly sometimes I have to leave the room afterwards ).

DH, when left with the DCs, does fishfingers, sausages or pasta . The DCs love it ungrateful little buggers.
