mayonaise and ketchup or tomato puree, possibly.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 14/09/2009 16:44

marie rose sauce, isn't it?

colditz · 14/09/2009 16:45

It's thousand island dressing and you can make it with mayonaise and ketchup and a bit of pepper and lemon juice.

You need a little bit of worcestershire sauce in it. Or horseradish.

My cayenne pepper is use by March 2008. I always follow dates. This isn't like meat, dairy or fish though is it....

Why SBF?

Is it use by or best before?

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/09/2009 17:09

Best before.

I don't think much can live or breed on cayenne! It might have lost some flavour but I doubt it'll harm anyone.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/09/2009 17:11

I guess it doesn't matter since I have realised I have put in worcester sauce which is marked as best before May 09. Oops.

OP posts:
HecatesTwopenceworth · 14/09/2009 17:13

then you can use it. Best before is just a guide, it means that after that it might not taste as good, maybe, but it certainly won't hurt you.

Use By is the one to watch. I think.

SlartyBartFast · 14/09/2009 17:18

cos i like prawn cocktail.
actually prefer avocado prawn mmmmm

oh i had some sort of red pepper that was absolutely rank when it was out of date. the one you use in goulash.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/09/2009 17:20

I have decided not to put the cayenne pepper in as it already has a bit of a kick with the worcester sauce in and I am not sure if DH will like it too hot.

SBF - join us if you like .

seen this too late.

TsarChasm · 14/09/2009 18:29

Has anyone ever wondered which thousand islands the sauce refers to? And out of 1000 islands, the best thing they could come up with between them was a bit of tomato mayo .
