keeping spuds fresh!

I keep reading that all you have to do to keep your potatoes fresh "all winter" is to put them in a basket in a dark place. Then they won't go mouldy, sprout or go green.

Either my dark places are not murky enough or my choice is baskets is dodgy, they all go manky within 10 days! I never get through a whole bag and it's really wasteful and annoying.

Does anyone keep spuds successfully without them going off?

not me either. The supermarkets have probably been keeping them in a dark place for months before they put them on their shelves

You have to keep them cool too! garden shed/garage will keep them longest. Or if you don't have access to somewhere like that... even then I wouldn't try and keep them longer than 2 months though!!

parboil for 6 mins then freeze to make all the best classics like roasties, mash etc...
