red food colouring - doesn't make things red!! what does??

made these dinky little cakes for dd's afternoon tea party this afternoon - ladybirds, or meant to be.

Bought red food colouring for the purpose but it only turns things pink - how do you make red icing?????

Is it liquid or paste? If paste then you just need more, and to leave the icing to sit (well wrapped) for a while before using it.

If it's liquid you have no chance, sorry (buy ready-coloured icing, it's easier )

You need colouring paste it turns everything red that it touches
