How can I cool down a chilli.......please....quickly

I've made a chilli for dinner and just had a taste. It's much too spicy/hot, It's hot for me, will be ok for Dh, but our grandson just won't be able to eat it at all.

Is there anything I can do to calm it down, or am I stuck with making him something else?

more beans, more tomato - you'll just have to up the volume to dilute the heat.

serve with sour cream or yoghurt?

SixtyFootDoll · 13/08/2009 15:58

sour cream

OhBling · 13/08/2009 15:58

What Mazzy said.

Plus try a little sugar (not too much).

And also with the sourcream/yoghurt mild cheddar will help too.

have you got vinegar? Put in a splosh and it will take the heat out of the chillies but not alter the flavour

Definitely serve it with yoghurt - depending on LO's age you could mix the yoghurt in. Eat it with a big glass of milk too (or Pepsi if you're not fussed about fizzy drinks, fizz takes the sting off somehow )

Add cream - sounds horrid but if you serve it with tortillas or rice (or pasta for that matter - it;s an 'insert made up pasta sauce name here' dear) it should be OK. How old is your GS? (only because if he's 10 or such he might be fine with it.....in that 'I;m a man now' way!

norktasticninja · 13/08/2009 15:59

A bit of sugar will cool it slightly. Serve it with plenty of plain yogurt and it should be fine, the rice will make it seem milder as well.

MrsKitty · 13/08/2009 16:07

all of the above. How old is your grandson anyway? My DS is 2.5 and can handle a fairly spicy chilli, although when I do go a bit overboard stirring in a dollop of yogurt always does the trick.

nickschick · 13/08/2009 16:09

If it were me I would add a small tin of baked beans to a little bit of chilli for him.

Flower3545 · 13/08/2009 16:14

Thanks all, he's 10 but not that keen on too spicy. Got no yogurt but I've got double cream?

What kind of vinegar Snuffle?

I add milk and a teaspoon of honey that works wonders

MrsKitty · 13/08/2009 16:32

cream should work. Sweetness will halp dampen the heat.

MrsKitty · 13/08/2009 16:33

Meant "help" obviously!
