Mushrooms in a beef stew - good idea?

Am making Jamie Oliver's basic beef stew (ministry of food recipe) and have a load of mushrooms in the fridge. Can I add these to the stew?

def! will make it more savoury and stretch the meal further.

Yes, I would. I always put mushrooms in beef stew. Lovely. I want to make one now, but DD2 is doing spag bol for dinner apparently.

cool, so should i fry them first or just put them in the stew when it goes in the oven? Am already frying off the onion, carrot and celery

I would put them in when they go in the oven.

definitely put them in as it goes in the oven, then the juices flavour the stew!
