My LO wont eat potatoes in any shape or form...any suggestions for a shepherds pie topping

wont eat mash, baked, chipped, boiled, roast! so what can I put on top?

Carrot and sweet potato? Mashed, maybe too similar though!

sweet potatoes mashed?
Or
cheesy?

parsnip/swede/carrot?

Pastry?

Breadcrumbs?

Savoury crumble?

My dd is the same, wont touch potatoes but will eat mash on top of a shepherds pie mixed in abit.

Gosh never thought of all of those - thanks some great suggestions. DS loves all veg so am going to try parsnip swede and carrot. Next time will try breadcrumbs

mine never ate mash till i got them making houses with it. mash for house, veg for widows & doors. now they love it, wont touch boiled ones though.

dietqueen my DS is the same, always has been.

He eats chepherd's pie and fish pie with sweet potato topping (I mix half half potato and sweet potato and he eats it this way)

Failing that, a nice puff pastry topping always goes down well (cook the topping on it's own on a tray and then put it on top of the shepherd's pie, that way it's not soggy.)

Dont think pastry will go down well but again never thought of mixing half mash and parsnip, swede and carrot...so simple really.

What about overlapping slices of buttered french bread with some grated cheese and thinly sliced leeks on top?

Would have to cook quite low so doesn't burn

Mashed cauliflower works well and is suprisingly tasty

Dumplings , crisps, crumble

Macaroni cheese - my mum used to do that sometimes for a change. She called it "Italian shepherds pie". No idea if it was a real recipe or something she just came up with when short of potatoes though...

When DS was little he wouldn't touch potatoes in any form - but he ate Shepherd's Pie because we told him it was Thomas The Tank Pie - ate it no problem then

Not quite the same texture, but I often top pies with sunflower seeds or sesame seeds and cheese. Put the seeds on first, then add the cheese on top so it melts through the seeds. Delish, and adds extra protein.

I have the same problem, neither of my dts (7 1/2 yo) like potatoes in any form at all, never have done.

Whenever I'm making anything with potato as an ingredient such as cottage pie, shepherd's pie etc. I always make a topping of carrot and swede and it goes down very well.
