Gas in gas oven

Probably a neurotic question - but hey, neurotic is my middle name

I turned my gas oven on to gas mark 9. It definitely was lit. I put in a couple of potatos, and at some point, the flame went out in the oven, so potatos were in the oven for a couple of minutes with unlit gas going into the oven.

I realised after a couple of minutes that the flame had gone out, but the gas was still going into the oven, so I relit it.

Just wondered, is it still OK to eat the potatos? Didn't know if the gas would be harmful in anyway if the flame had gone out?

Thanks

It's fine, the gas should cut out automatically and besides it is only harmful if enough of it is inhaled not if it's gone on the outside of the potatoes.

Thanks for that.

Not sure whether or not the gas cut out - I thought I could smell gas when I opened the oven door.

Thought I had better check I wasn't poisoning anyone!
