Can gherkins go off?

I have an open jar in the fridge. It's been in there for a few months. on the jar it says once opened use within 15 days (Who's going to use a whole jar of gherkins in 15 days??) but the best before day isn't until 2011.
are they still ok?

I'd assume they're fine so long as the vinegar/brine hasn't gone murky and a bit manky looking.

i decided to not risk it. had my burger gherkin-less.

Gerkins are PICKLED TO PRESERVE THEM!

If they look fine, I'm sure they'll be fine.
