Help - what can I serve with pan fried chicken breasts cooked with capers, white wine vinegar, lemon and garlic?

I need ideas - I don't want to do new potatoes or wedges.

Salad - what kind?

It's for a book group supper, so serving 8.

Any ideas on dessert would also be appreciated.

TIA

Rice. Brown, probably. And I'd do a hot, crunchy green veg rather than salad. French beans maybe? Or roast asparagus?

Summer pudding?

snigger · 28/06/2009 19:19

Buttered tagliatelle with maybe some fresh tarragon through it, to offset the potential acidity of lemon/capers/vinegar?

Have a soft baby leaf salad on the side or as another course?

I'd definitely have a fruity pudding.

Do people like summer pudding? I do, although I've never made it before. Do you serve cream with it?

What about strawberries and cream for pudding, with some meringues as well if you like.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/06/2009 19:51

Couc cous?

LyraSilvertongue · 28/06/2009 19:52

Oops, cous cous.

bellavita · 28/06/2009 19:54

I was just going to suggest what snigger said.. you beat me to it

thedolly · 28/06/2009 20:02

cous cous - with some flavour?

I'd roast some asparagus and perhaps serve it with Nigella's bean mash instead of potatoes. here

thedolly · 28/06/2009 20:19

Thunderduck - have you had that bean mash before? Is it cannellini beans? Sounds yum to me but I'd probably make 2 tins serve 4.

Rocket with real lemon juice, maybe Lyonnaise potatoes - you know, that layered stuff, is that the right name?

Pudding - good quality vanilla ice cream w berries and homemade chocolate sauce (a slab of G+B's and a pot of single cream, warmed).

Thunderduck · 28/06/2009 20:28

I made it yesterday and it was really nice. I did add a little chicken stock to it, and I used cannellini beans.

thedolly · 28/06/2009 21:06

Does anyone like white chocolate sauce? I think it would be yummy with berries. G+B white choc of course.

I do.

Thunderduck · 28/06/2009 21:26

Oh and I added a little more garlic than the recipe calls for,but I really love garlic.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 28/06/2009 21:29

like snigger's idea of tagliatelle, but what about with lemon zest and parsley?

thedolly · 28/06/2009 22:19

I'm liking the tagliatelle idea. I don't use parsley much so maybe it's time to try.

Thanks alot for the ideas .
