Ideas please - lamb steaks and mackerel fillets

In my freezer I have some lamb steaks and some fresh mackerel fillets - both things I don't normally buy and I'm really not sure what to do with them.

Firstly I've had the mackerel in there since last year - will it still be OK do you think?

And now can I have some recipe suggestions please? thank you!

Mackerel may be okay, you can never tell till you defrost it really - the bbc good food site has a fab thing where you put in the ingredient and it suggests recipes. I am doing a lamb tagine on Monday with lamb steaks which is dead easy but takes all day to cook.

Cut the lamb up and make a slow-cooked lamb dish (casserole or tajine).

Thanks, I was wondering if I could casserole it, I have a slow cooker but had always used a different cut of lamb for this before, I wasn't sure if I could do it with steaks.

mackerel - teriyaki. just marinate it a bit and then grill. i have it with beansprouts and leafy thing stir fried. rice.

here is a very basic teriyaki recipe but really it should have other stuff in like mirin.
