The simplest thing to do is to core them, stuff them with dates (and a bit of brown sugar if you like them really sweet) and throw in the oven to bake. Serve with custard.

My Gran used to do these all the time

Apple cake.

If you have a bread machine see if theres a recipe for a cake in there. I've adapted the carrot cake recipe (that came with our breadmachine) to make a gorgeous apple and raisin cake

Apple cake

Get a couple of eggs, weigh them. Whatever the eggs weigh, add the same weight of flour, caster sugar and butter (so if you eggs weigh 4oz - add 4oz of everything) Mix it all together. Peel core and finely chop 2 of your cooking apples and add to the mixture. Put in a loaf tin and bake for 30mins ish at 180......

It's delicious and it freezes well too so you could make more!!

Peel them, chunk them and put them in a pan with juice of an orange and a lemon, plus a couple of tablespoons of sugar. Heat and simmer until they are puree - check they are sweet enough.

These can be chilled or frozen and is great served with custard, or as the bottom fruit layer of a sponge (110grams of butter, sugar and flour plus 2 eggs), or with a crumble topping. Also good with pork.

Crumble - 110 grams of butter, 75 grams of sugar, 150 grams of flour, a teaspoon of cinnamon. Rub butter into flour, add sugar and cinnamon. Put over apple, sprinkle extra sugar on top if you want, then bake at approx 170 degrees for 30 mins plus until brown.

Apple crumble, with cinnamon!

Ice cream though, not custard.
