Can you whip single cream?

Actually, scrap that. It is use by today and are for cakes to be eaten tomorrow. Damn. Will have to make normal icing or buttercream for the top. DS2 wants 100s and 1000s. Which will be better - icing or butter cream?

Not unless you add a special product to it.

Butter cream is much nicer than icing.

FabulousBakerGirl · 11/06/2009 13:17

Butter cream it is.

Isn't it just softened unsalted butter with sifted icing sugar beaten into it until you get the sweetness you want? I love demerara icing sugar.

FabulousBakerGirl · 11/06/2009 13:34

I think so but I wanted to make what I made before.

I have a plan....

Right, butter cream made - chocolate flavour.

Shall I do butterfly buns or just spread it on top? Either way, it has to have 100s and 1000s. DS2's request.

Butterflies!

FabulousBakerGirl · 11/06/2009 14:02

I did one butterfly then improvised as the wings were going to be too small.

I dug out a round piece of cake, filled the hole with chocolate buttercream and some 100s and 1000s then out the circle of cake on top.

Yum.

Have been in this kitchen all day....

Could've said they were moth cakes instead!

FabulousBakerGirl · 11/06/2009 22:10

I would but I can just hear DS2 now "But they aren't moths, Mummy"

I asked him if he wanted fairy cakes to take to playschool and had a right whinge. I explained they were called that as they are small and light but he is now taking sprinkle buns to playschool..

No, but you can freeze single cream.

FabulousBakerGirl · 11/06/2009 22:15

Thanks. The cream went in our dinner and I made chocolate buttercream instead.
