is garic safe for 8month old?

Just realised i put garlic in ds's lentil puree. Anyone know if this is ok? One clove in a pint batch.

Garlic should be ok, not sure of the benefits of garic though

Totally fine. DS loves it, always has (slightly stinky, yet healthy, baby!).

garic? oops! he seems to like it, i just cut it finely and put it in. Will check out his breath later!

DD has just had Spag Bog (with garlic) per an Annabel Karmer recipe - so if she it is O.K then it must be.

TBH I think as a general rule herbs atc are O.K but not added salt - if I'm wrong I'm sure a fellow mumsnetter will correct me.

i'm just being really careful because he had a bleeding gut a c`ouple of months ago but he's better now. i know garlic has blood thinning properties, might not use it again., but know its so good in other ways, anti bacterial etc.

Garlic is perfectly ok to give to any age child. My two were weaned on food laden with garlic. In fact my ds's first "solid" at 6 mo. was garlic soup.

The sluglet loves pickled garlic. She's been known to take a whole bowl of olives (her other particular favourite), take the garlic stuffing out, eat all those first, then eat the olives. She follows this with a nice piece of stinky blue cheese.

slug, my ds does the same thing. I get big tubs of olives cured with garlic at costco and ds eats the olives, then the garlic and then drinks the juice that they're cured in.

my dd(19mnths) also loves olives covered in garlic. I have been putting garlic into her foods( Annabel Karmeland the Cooking for Coco book) since she started on solids. Don't think there should be a problem at all.

my family in italy strongly critised me for feeding my 2y dd food that has garlic in it, because they belive young children cannot digest it.

I felt really bad but that decided to ignore this advice. I usually put garlic in my tomato sauce for pasta. now that i think of it, I must have been subconsciously affected by these comments and I am struggling to find another example of garlic in my cooking

DD has been on garlic since fairly early weaning (she is almost one) and absolutely loves garlic bread. Personally I think it is better to introduce children to a variety of flavours and stronger food so that it is something they are used to rather than a bland diet that turns into nuggets and chips.

As my dd had our food pureed as a baby she had garlic almost every day (still does). I swear that's why she's only had a couple of colds in her 8 years and we've never been troubled by vampires -

One one hand it's easy to take your child out to eat. If in doubt I get her a bowl of olives and the cheese board. On the other hand it gets damn expensive

DD never would eat anything that was too bland. Our real breakthrough on getting her to eat rice cereal came when I mixed it with carrot-ginger soup. When in doubt, I add garlic or ginger to food to make it more palatable to her.

It never occured to me that garlic would be anything but good for my dd. It does have all sorts of medicinal benefits and the hv told me to feed dd what I eat and just about everything I cook has garlic in it. DD much prefers spicy savoury food that we cook to bland jarred foods. What harm could it do? I think it's probably good for them.

when ds was little we had lamb with rosemary and garlic for sunday lunch one day and the report from nursery next day was that 2 of them had to change ds's nappy (one at a time with breather inbetween) and one lass's eyes were streaming
