Anjum Anand. I have her most recent book, taken from the latest TV series. I have cooked loads from it and everything has been fabulous.

Well, you can't go wrong with Madhur Jaffrey.

Overmydeadbody · 01/06/2009 17:25

What do you mean by modern though?

DO you want Authentic Indian recipes, for food you'd find in India, or do you want Indian-inspired western cooking?

HuffwardlyRudge · 01/06/2009 17:27

Madhur Jaffrey's Curry Bible is a wonderful book.

Madhur Jaffrey's World vegetarian - I cook at least 2 meals a week from this book. Very very usable.

I second Madhur JAffery's curry bible. It is my fav cook book.

Not all indian - has recipes from all over world.

Also covers breads/chutneys/dips/rice/etc

And contains a lot of explanatory stuff.

I saw your other thread and the curry bible also has a section on spice mixes.

Wow, thanks for all these replies!

I suppose I had this (possibly completely erroneous) idea that 'modern' Indian cooking was a lot lighter and fresher than some traditional dishes. Maybe not the case, and many apologies to anyone actually from India for my total ignorance!

All I know is that I like eating Indian food and given that I'm blessed with living in a very multicultural area with lots of Indian shops, I quite fancy learning how to make stuff.
