Beaten egg

I have made Festive fruit snails and before cooking it says to brush with beaten egg. Is it just for colouring?

Are they a sort of pastry thing? Beaten egg gives them that sort of shiny glaze on the top.

It is bread dough, spread with mince meat, then rolled up into a snail shape.

So not really necessary then?

No, not necessary, just makes them look nicer, will prob prevent them from cracking too.
