fridge temperature

i have a fridge freezer and my thermometer is in the red area when its in the fridge but it feels cold enough and when i put the thermometer in the freezer its ok, could thermometer be wrong

What kind of thermometer is it? We had one from some electricity company and it was always saying our fridge was too warm but if we turned it up to the setting the thermometer said was ok, it was far too cold. I was suupicious and think they were trying to get us to run our fridge harder than we needed to to use more electricity!
