Help me with chocolate cornflake cake things - please

I have founds lots of recipies but where I am I cannot get golden syrup what can I substiute?

I just melt chocolate and stir in cornflakes or rice krispies

Use Mars bars.

I think they are a bit vile without butter and golden syrup in but have heard Mars bars work just as well.

I do the same as Countess. Otherwise they don't seem to set and are a bit too sweet and sickly.
