Foolproof felafel recipe?

Whenever I've attempted to make felafel in the past, they've always disintegrated in the oil when I've fried them. Has anyone got a recipe where they hold their shape properly?

buy a packet mix.
not sure if this is the advice you wanted, but it works.

Not what I was after, but thank you!
If I can't get hold of a recipe, I'll give it a try.

sorry.

bumping for some proper advice.

I made some once and they held together fine but they tasted no better than the cauldron foods ones, and normally I make everything from scratch.

Can't remember which recipe it was - might have been Cranks?

Overmydeadbody · 09/05/2009 20:24

ps 'garbanzo' beans are chickpeas

when I lived in the middle east, most people just used packet mixes, kind of like we use ready made yorkshire puds for sunday lunch. Notihng wrong with packet mix.

Overmydeadbody · 09/05/2009 20:25

cilantro is coriander, obviously

Overmydeadbody · 09/05/2009 20:28

aubergine, how are you cooking them? If they are falling apart in the oil it could have more to do with the temperature of the oil, rather than the recipe. Just a thought.

Overmydeadbody · 09/05/2009 20:28

God I'm hungry now, I want falafel with tahini sauce!

Thanks for the replies.
I didn't mean to be snobby about the packet thing nevergoogledragonbutter it's just that I normally cook things from scratch because I enjoy cooking. Plus I'm doing BLW so I'm trying to make things without salt, and so many packets have salt in. If it's the answer in this case, I'm definitely willing to give it a try. Any suggestions for the best packet mix brand?

Overmydeadbody - thank you for the link. I'll have a look. And yes, they fall apart in the oil, so maybe it's just not hot enough. I'll have a go today and report back.
