Need ideas for lunch party

Dh turns 40 next Saturday and the DC want to have a party for him ( we are separated)

I have invited his Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother, Brothers girlfriend and her daughter( I have never met either of them) to a lunch party at my house.

I have planned balloons and cake, and now need ideas for food. Eating out with mutual friends in the evening with DH to celebrate, so nothing too heavy wanted but in laws are travelling 2 hours to get here so don't just want sausage rolls and crisps

Any ideas??

BTW also on very tight budget

Nice selection of salads
Good cheese and cold meats
Pickle
Bread and butter.

Or as long as not vege cook a chicken and serve that with the salads/bread.

Probably could get away with one big mixed salad as well if you wanted.

Or could do sausages with it instead of chicken.

Roast Gammon(cold)
Sandwiches/wraps
Quiche
Pasta salad
Mini pizzas

I'm planning a suprise for mil and thats a few of the things that I will be doing.

Thanks for the ideas, will definately go with the Gammon, cheese, and salad thing as I can prepare it all the night before.
Also as it is a back to front suprise, DH will be the first here as he thinks he is coming round to get birthday pressies from the DC and blow out some candles. he wont see me rushing around and give the game away

Quiche
Lots of salad/potatoes etc

and Wine!

Wine will most definitely be in the plan, first time i will have sen the in-laws since we separated
