i've just got a joint of beef out of the fridge to go in the slow cooker. It looks OK and it smells OK but...the date says best before 29th..that was friday!

Big question...

cook it or bin it?

Hmmmmmm - I'd cook it but wouldn't leave it any later than today.

was going to put it in the oven on timed but that means its not cooking til 3ish but isn't in the fridge either so thought the slow cooker would be a safer bet???

If you were putting it in the slow cooker, presumably you're planning to have it cooked all the way through, quite thoroughly (I don't use a slow cooker). In which case, it's probably ok, particularly if you're not feeding it to anyone pregnant or under 2. I don't think leaving part of it rare would be wise, though.

yup, we like it really well done..and slow cooker would mean it would be done thoroughly
