Salt free or low salt stock cubes.

Where do you get them from apart from Boots?

DS2 is nearly 11 months old and eats really well. I adapt our recipes so that they're suitable for him but am really struggling to find salt free or low salt/sodium stock cubes.

Any ideas?

Watching with interest...I would like to know too

Ewe · 29/04/2009 11:14

I get mine from boots, not sure of any other stockists.

Why can't you get them from boots?

marigold does a low salt organic vegan option which is very nice - waitrose do it

BabyValentine · 29/04/2009 11:19

We get a low-salt vegetable boullion from Tesco (it might be vegan). Not sure if there are any meat varieties.

BabyValentine · 29/04/2009 11:20

oops, sorry newgirl, that'll be it!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/04/2009 11:20

Thanks for that newgirl.

I can get then from Boots - it's just a faff to get there and I've run out but want to do a batch of cooking!

I'll just buy loads when I do get there.

I wish Tesco would do some and they could deliver it with the rest of our shopping

the supermarkets do a low salt vegetable stock cube - they are made by Kallo Organic and are in a pale blue box.

Kallo low salt stock cubes

We use the Kallo organic very low salt vegetable stock cubes but I can only get them in the health food shop. I don't go very often so buy 3 or 4 packs at a time, we also stock up on the boys very favourite thing, organic marmite rice cakes (not actually marmite, yeast extract) I have to buy 8 packets of the mini ones and run out way before the month is up!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/04/2009 19:54

Tesco don't seem to do the low salt ones but thank you.

Marigold Very Low Salt Vegetable Bouillon. It comes in purple tins so you use exactly the amount you want - no skanky bits of unused cube. All the main supermarkets stock it - our in the "Free From" section but I get a huge tub from the Hairy Anklers Wholefoods warehouse Tis much cheaper than Kallo.

CherryChoc · 29/04/2009 20:02

For emergencies when I can't get to Boots but can get to supermarket I just buy liquid stock - it's more expensive but much lower in salt. I think the salt is something to do with keeping the cubes dry, actually.

Great! Thanks everyone.

Sainsburys ready-made 'Signature' stock in vacuum packets (also available fresh) is entirely free of salt.
