Freshly laid eggs - how long can you keep them before eating?

My dh is bringing home eggs from a work colleague who is keeping hens. Obviously, they are not date stamped. So how long can I keep them for before eating?

you can eat them raw for 3 days, 3 weeks for cooking.

raw???? yuck! Ok, 3 weeks is great - no way they will last that long in this house!
