Defrosted Sausages?

curlygal · 22/04/2009 17:54

DS announced that he wanted sausages and peas for tea. As it has been a huge effort to get him to eat anything not chocolate related since easter I ran to the kitchen.

I defrosted some frozen sausages in the microwave but they got a bit cooked - does that matter?

I am now grilling them throughly but want to make sure I don;t food poison DS!

As long as they are thoroughly cooked u will be fine - if you buy richmond freezer sausages from the freezer section you will never have this dilemma again ( u cook them straight from frozen, i'm a lazy mummy)

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 22/04/2009 22:36

I often do this. I haven't died yet.

Thanks, I did cook them till they were well done (ok lightly burnt)

DS puked all night, I really hope it was just a coincidence??? He's just thrown up half a cup of water and apple juice so that is a bug NOT food poisoning cuased by mummy not cooking suasages surelY?

it's unlikely to be your cooking method, don't worry.

If he hasn't eaten anything "proper" for a while it might be the spiciness of the sausages is a shock to him?

PlumBumMum · 23/04/2009 10:23

Think its a coincedence, I always do this with sausages, but oven bake after defrosting, so as long as they were cooked through your ds just has a bug,

SaintGeorge · 23/04/2009 10:26

The only worry with partially cooking stuff when defrosting in the microwave is if you then leave it to cool again before cooking properly. That creates a breeding ground for bugs.

If you cook immediately the only problem might be some bits are overcooked!

For future reference an easy and safe way to defrost anything quickly is to secure them in a freezer bag and place in a bowl of cold water.

To give you an idea how quick it is, a pack of bacon will be thawed in less than 10 minutes.

Yes think it is a bug. I cooked the sausages immediately after I defrosted them. It was a full on puke - lunch and dinner from what I could see (nice) and he's still puking so am trying not to blame self.

Will try to cold water thing. Thanks

Oh no! Sorry to hear this but if cooked properly and not allowed to cool, hopefully not the sausages! How is he now?

curlygal · 24/04/2009 18:44

Thankfully it seems to have been a 24 hour bug - hard core puking for most of the day, then he perked up at tea time and ate normally.

Normal service resumed
