Can babies eat salad?

HIya

Probably a really stupid question now I think about it but just thought I'd check.

Can babies eat mixed green salad? You know like the Florette stuff?

She's 8 1/2 months, really good eater, handles finger food really well and just thought this would be a good habit to get her into.

Any ideas?

Mine did

I figured if he was happy to eat the foliage from houseplants he would manage a bit of lettuce

lettucey type stuff is tricky for them to handle until they're a bit older (prolly the back teeth coming through makes a difference). no harm in offering, i suppose, but expect it to come straight back out, or have to fish it out

DS liked salads from 6 months on

muddleduck · 22/04/2009 13:44

salad is the only thing that my boys didn't eat until later - they'd put it in their mouth, look slightly puzzled, then give it back to me. Obviously they were not convinced that it wa actually food.

Can't say i blame them

worth trying though...

Cool will probably try her with some then.

She loves her fruit and always tries to get some off me when I have it (no dressing, don't like it) but I didn't want to give her any until I knew it was ok IYKWIM. She's quite a funny child really, in my books, she'd rather have fruit in her hand than a baby biscuit! I don' mind though. It's cheaper for a start lol, and a good habit for her to have

Thanks for the help

Yes, why not try it - but none of my DCs liked lettuce until they were 5+yrs old so it might not be a hit! Cucumber and tomatoes a massive hit, though.

DuffyFluckling · 22/04/2009 13:49

I always gave my 2 lettuce.
Dd assumed it was a curious joke and politely gave it back.
Ds loves it.

She loves cucumber - we went to a bbq at a friends house a while ago and she was quite happily sat on the floor eating slices of cucumber lol. And she does love tomatoes too, she gets a big grin on her face when she bites them and the 'water' comes out lol

Lettuce is met with puzzlement and dissapointment by my 2 year old. She keeps trying it because we eat it, but it just gets stuck to the roof of her mouth and she can't swallow - I often have to fish it out . Loves all the other salad stuff though.
