Tomato sauce using tomato puree??

I want to make a tomato sauce to use with sausages as a sort of tomato casserole. The only problem is I have no tinned tomatoes....but I have about 4 tubes of tomato puree. How do I make the puree into a sauce...add water or oil? Would it work?
Any suggestions?

I'd use stock to water it down. But by itself, not great. Do you have some tinned beans you could add? Baked beans even would work.

I'd fry some onions and garlic and any other softish veg you have - celery and finely diced carrots would be a good addition, too. Try courgettes, peppers, aubergine etc. Then add water/stock and a really hefty squirt of tomato purée. Simmer for a bit until all the veg are soft. And herbs would be nice. Maybe thyme or oregano.
