hi, i have been giving my 7 month old dd, porridge from a jar....heinz 'mums own' range.

she really loves it, but it says on the jar....from 4 months, as my dd is 7 months should i not be using it, ifnot what should she have?

Make your own from scratch. Takes seconds and a bag of oats costs next to nothing.

At 7 months she can have weetabix & Ready brek. She can still have the jars but it's much cheaper to buy ordinary cereal. You could also try her with toast or i would give my children pureed apple & yoghurt sometimes.

pardon me for being soooooo thick, i am no chef and have never made porridge in my life.....i eat oat so simple, the stuff you add milk and microwave for 3 mins.....simple like me.

so, porridge, do i make it with water,baby milk,or normal milk?????

you could make it with any of those. At 7 months your dd can have cows milk if used in cooking. I make porridge with full fat milk and sometimes add grated apples or mashed banana and cinnamon (this is for me and dd who is 3!)

I make porridge most mornings - you can make it with either milk or water. The way I make it is to put some milk in a pan (probably about half a mug) and put it on at a medium heat. When the milk is hot but not boiling, add the porridge oats (a mug full) and stir into the milk until it is all absorbed. Then add water (about a mug) - add it a bit at a time and wait until absorbed by the oats before adding more. This will all take 5 mins tops and will serve two adults and a baby. We eat it with some sugar free jam or some honey and dd (7mths) has some fruit puree with hers.

You can also add sugar or salt to taste - though not a good idea for wee ones!

LK, you can use Oatso Simple for your baby too - it's only oats (just give her the plain one, not a sugary one!).

And try Sunwheel pear and apple spread with it - a little dollop - makes it lovely. You can get it in health food shops - it's concentrated pear and apple juice, sugar free and looks like marmite, but tastes MUCH nicer!

30g porridge oats in a microwaveable bowl, add 300ml full fat milk (or formula but milk ok at that age) cover and microwave for 3 mins, stir and leave to stand for a minute

you can cool it down by adding some cold milk

don't add sugar but can grate apple or mush banana into it, I'd try it plain

its really really easy

If I was you I would just give her the Oats so simple with full fat cow's milk. Maybe add some fruit puree depending on the rest of her diet. I used to give DD prune puree for obvious reasons!

lucykatie. I do it twigletts wayish - but put the oats in the blender first (a big lot, then store in a jar) to make them smaller. Then they end up even more cooked.
