those of you who bulk cook . . . .

help me out a little, if you don't mind

We're desperately trying to save to move away from where we are now so I thought a big pan of stew, a pot of bolognaise sauce which could be turned into chilli/lasagne/spag bol, a pot of curry (all made in my huge pot which will feed my oh and me for about 4 nights & the lo as well).

What else do you bulk cook? so that I can make a big pot & have plenty in the freezer to last us a fair while, as cheaply as possible & then just buy odd bits each week

Normally I'd manage to think of stuff fine, but . . . . bank holiday night out hangover has killed off a few braincells & I can't think of anything [tired & hungover]

Thanks for any ideas I can stick on my list

I do everything in the £1 shop/ takeaway containers, then they stack nicely in the freezer and I can write the contents on the lid.

welcome.

If you freeze portions of casserole you can make a cheats pie with them as well.
I keep a couple of frozen blocks of puff pastry, if i am stuck for a meal i bung a portion of casserole in a foil dish and stick puff pastry on top. Glaze with a little milk and serve with veg on the side.

If you have veg on the turn you can blanche and then freeze to save wasting them.
I also freeze grated cheese in portions as it is much cheaper to buy a huge block once a month.

I use these Foil dishes for lasagne & pies.

To add to the rest I freeze cold roast meats in gravy.

good idea re turning casseroles into pies! (see that's why I love MN, someone always has a clever idea). I buy frozen veggies already to avoid wasting them.

They're the dishes I meant from the £1 shop (or are similar), will definately get some of them

I freeze chicken/veg stock in baby bottles

We freeze monkfish curry, chicken ratatouille, soups and pies. apart from pies, never use those foil things for freezing as you're buggered if you then need to defrost something last minute in microwave.

good tip, FeelingLucky, I probably would have fallen for that one!
