Ah yes - the alien veg that turn up in the veg box and you have to check the internet to find out what they are!

Haven't had them for a while, but we shredded ours and sauted them in butter. They were tasty, although not on their own . You can also put them into mash, or veggie burgers, or make a rosti-type thing out of them.

HTHs

German SIL says slice them, sauté them then make White sauce.

Or eat them raw with dip.

They're a bit like turnip.

Do with them whatever you would with turnip....I know that is not a big help....but I've grown them before, they were ok, if you like turnip/swede!!

My grandmother used to boil them and then add a white sauce. Very tasty. I haven't seen them for a long time. Used to like them done like that.

IloveJudgeJudy · 10/04/2009 22:58

Sorry, forgot to add that she peeled and cubed them beforehand!

Make a nice stew:

Diced pork - simmer for an hour in water. add salt.
add: equal quantity of carrot, kohlrabi and potato. handful of strips of celery
season with salt and pepper
add thyme, rosemary, basilicum, pinch of allspice

We grate it and add it to salad.

allthetwinklystars · 11/04/2009 02:47

My mum suggested using it for a stir-fry with other veg.

Ooooh thanks everyone! (especially those who kindly responded in the middle of the night!) They were looking destined for the compost heap but I think will now be spared.

Now I just have to get through two bags of jerusalem artichokes...
