OK - here goes - on the morning when you want them for dinner that evening, get a really sharp knife and slash the duck breasts quite deeply. Put them in an ovenproof dish. Peel a number of bits of orange and lemon peel and squish them into the cuts. Also push in some star anise, whole or broken. Squeeze the juice from the orange and lemon that you used for the peel and pour that over the breasts. Throw over some whole 5 spice, or alternatively, some powdered 5 spice (more easily available). Cover and leave to marinate for the day.
Roast at 220C at the top of the oven, pouring off the fat etc as necessary. Cook for about 20 mins for pink, 30 mins for well-done. Serve with whatever you like- noodles and stir fry/new potatoes and broccoli/whatever. Totally yum.
