white chocolate icing,..... can i do this?

im going to make achocolate cake today and would like to make white chocolate frosting for it can i just add melted white choc to my butter icing? i dont want to ust put the melted choc on top of the cake as it goes to hard i want something soft can anyone advise me please?

I know you can do it with dark chocolate, so I don't see why not with white! Sounds tasty!

You could try a white chocolate ganache - equal amounts white choc and cream, melted together and then beaten until it thickens (though again, have only ever done it with dark choc but no reason it shouldn't work with white!).

I would go for the white choc ganache, but with white choc (rather than dark choc)you need more choc than cream or it will be too runny.

Probably too late to help, but I made a lovely white choc icing following Nigella's recipe for cappucino cupcakes (didn't use it for them, I put it on top of her choc guinness cake - t'was yum).

160g white chocolate
60g butter
120g sour cream
300g icing sugar, sieved

melt the white choc and butter in a heavy-based pan over a low heat, then leave to cool a little before stirring in the sour cream. Beat in the icing sugar a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

I made double this amount to cover a 23cm cake thickly.

Yeap heat up the double cream , pour over really well chopped up white choc YUMMY
