Need starter ideas for my first dinner party in years..

I've got my first Sunday lunch for friends this weekend. I've not had friends over for years, as the house was being re-done, and the kids were too small. I am taking it easy, and making my yummy lasagne, as everyone eats lasagne. But I'm not sure what to do as a starter, and to make it hard, I have two fussy (no fish, no veggies, and only red fruit) guests coming. Any ideas on an easy, popular starter? I was thinking of italian style antipesto, but not sure if they would eat it.. Any ideas please?

goats cheese on toasted bread, or garlic bread with melted motzarella (sorry spelling is awful!) or a plate to share of things like cheese, grilled haloumi cheese, houmous and bread sticks to nibble on then people can pick and choose what they have and you can add in things you like for example tomatoes and olives

hope you have a lovely dinner

No veggies?

What, you mean grown adults who refuse to eat vegetables?

With guests that fussy I wouldn't cater it to them, just make sure there is some bits they can eat (no point restricting everyones dining pleasure because of 2 fusspots). I would go for nibbles rather than a starter, so chips/dips, olives, pimentos stuffed with Boursin, thai crab cakes with chilli dipping suace, sweetcorn fritters, spanakopita (sp) (all can be made ahead of time then just reheated in the oven)

Soup - grab some Covent Garden or M&S type readymades - scatter homemade croutons ontop?

Mushroom Pate - with thick bread

Brushetta - chopped fresh toms, basil, garlic

or a big sharing platter - half veggie half non veggie ie. Breaded mushrooms, potato skins, ribs, cruitees on the side

I always do roasted peppers with tomatoes, really easy and go down well with everyone. Don't know what to suggest for the fuss pots. Maybe you could trot out some findus crispy pancakes for them only?
