how long will madeira cake stay delicious?

I want to make ds' birthday cake in advance. Am planning to ice it with fondant icing. So given that I ice the cake the day after I make it and keep it in an airtight container how far in advance can I make it?

It will keep for at least a week. Be careful though, because the moistness (is that a word?) of the cake will make the icing soft, so it may sag a bit.

ah didn't think of that. AM making postman Pat's van so don't want the top section of the van to slide off the bottom. Maybe 3 days?

3 days should be fine.
