Use your hand...palm towards you, put thumb to base of index finger...now feel the 'give' on the fleshy bit below your thumb...that is how a rare steak should feel...then thumb to next finger along, repeat, thumb to third finger and that should be how a well done steak should feel.

Never actually tested method but saw it on a cookery show...

i'm full of useless facts...

And vegetarian.

Ally90 That is just about right (very impressed at odd trivia) But I agree well done is overdone! I have mine almost medium and its delicious. I used to have it well done but after trying it and not dying of food poisoning decided that it was much better, may he could be educated!

Slow cook/braise it in wine til it falls apart.

I like mine medium rare - nice and pink (not bloody) in the middle - yumm

put little bit of oil in a pan, season your steak with salt and pepper.turn the steak every few minutes.and the secret of a nice, tender, well done steak is BUTTER.just add it whilst frying, add as much as you like on top.chop some onion and add to it.You can have it with chips( with ketchup),or make mash, with gravy and salad.
