What cake might survive being sent by Royal Mail?

Have two friends who live a little way away (but in the UK) who've both had babies this week.

I'm sending a few presents in the post, and thought about sending a cake as well.

But what sort of cake might survive a. a few days before being eaten, and b. the almost certain possible clumsy handling of our postal service?

Anyone done anything similar before?

Good solid fruit cake? Esp if full of booze!

There are companies that will send cakes - probably quite £££ though

Royal Mail managed to break the corner off a perspex shelf we posted this week. It was really well wrapped and they must have really been careless with it to break it. I wouldn't trust them with a cake.

Lovely idea but I'm not sure i'd trust them to be honest.

Rock cakes maybe

Sorry not much help, possibly a sturdy fruit cake but one of my christmas cakes managed to get squished on a 2 hour journey in a car so who knows...DH got the blame for bad packing obviously.

www.bettys.co.uk

they do rock cakes, fruit cakes, lovely student tuck boxes - we got our mince pies form there - all perfect

FANTASTIC, thanks Laurie. One of the babies is called Betty, so it couldn't be more perfect

Google muffins by post - or cakes by post - there are loads of comapnies who specialise in sending baskets of cakes by post.

Oh I want cheesecake now

You can test out that cheesecake delivery place by posting me one if you like? That one with berries on looks lovely.

My address is..........

Oh goodness yes, the English Cheesecake Company is fantastic! We had a four-tier cheesecake from there for our wedding cake. Had to sample a couple first, of course....

Didn't like the ones with Marc du Champagne in them.
