Breadmaker question - butter or oil?

Hi

I recently bought a Panasonic SD254 and so far so good, lovely fresh bread for me and improved GF bread for DP.

I seem to remember reading on here that when a recipe asked for butter, I could use oil instead. Is this right?
Which is best, oil or butter? And if it's oil, how do I know how much oil to use when a recipe specifies butter?

Thanks

I always use oil, it's easier. About a tablespoon usually, I use either olive or veg oil. Hth!

Thanks.
The last recipe I used asked for 15g butter, so a tbsp (15ml I think?) would make sense

I always use oil - sunflower oil usually. I just use the recipe that came with the Morphy Richards breadmaker I have, think it is 2 and a half tablespoons oil for the 1 and a half pound loaf.

I use butter for "regular" bread - I think it makes a crustier crust! and oil for things like ciabbata and foccacia which are softer.

I always use butter 1 oz to 1lb of flour

I've got the same panasonic model, and always use oil. I put the pan from the breadmaker on some electronic scales and just keep resetting to zero as I weigh everything in - makes it super quick and oil less faff than butter.

always oil. Just weigh it in.

I always use light olive oil and honey instead of sugar. Lovely loaves!

def use olive oil, much better for you and cheaper too. plus tastes better than sunflower oil.

I only ever use butter. I've never thought of using oil.

Seems like quite a split decision! I think I'll have to try both and see which works for me!
Thanks
