cocktail suggestions please....

would like to serve a cocktail with canapes ... what are you favourites? I normally do kir royale, bucks fizz, bellini or similar. DOn't want to buy a huge amount of spirits, but happy to buy a couple of bottles.... don't want creamy, as too rich for pre-dinner nibbles.

fench martini - martini, gin , tonic with an ice and a slice

Seabreeze - vodka, cranberry and grapefruit - refreshing and not too pricey.

sorry, should have said, one of the guests doesn't drink anything with gin in it (which is a nuisance, cos I always have gin in! But will try your martini suggestion another time, compo. Like the seabreeze suggestion MadameC... very refreshing to go with canapes. Happy to hear any others cos would like to offer more than one

classic champagne cocktail is simple and classy - few drops of angostura on a sugar lump and top up with champagne. Some recipes then call for a dash of brandy although I rarely bother. I also don't use champagne as it's a bit of a waste imo! NIce dry cava is fine, you can't taste the difference once the angostura goes in.

But I love kir royale mmmmmmm....

Or if it's hot pimms is nice?

Do not go for the brandy in the champagne cocktail - went to a party last night which kicked off with these and most of them were left undrunk on the table as it was like fizzy brandy!

Love cocktails but don't drink gin.
Try a Daiquri.
All sorts , mint and strawberry are faves.
2 hots white rum
2 tsp runny honey/ sugar syrup
1/2 shot sqeezed lime juice
mint leaves or smashed up strawberry juice.

Shake over crushed ice.

You can do a smilar version with vodka mint and honey, called a Dawa.

Vodka, lemonade with a splash of lime juice is yummy.

thanks all, am thinking moscow mules and seabreezes. Tho have a bottle of dark rum I bought for cooking - anyone any tried and tested cocktail ideas for dark rum please?
